Sova Amalie (known by her full name as Sovara), also known by her Skorpe handle, sanguineAllegory, is one of the trolls in Vast Error. Her associated alchemic sigil is Silver and her horns curve outwards in a smooth arc.

Sova is based off of the "Tragic Backstory/Victim" fantroll archetype.

She was the eleventh troll introduced and the eighth troll to enter the game.

Etymology

"Sova" means 'owl' in Serbocroatian, Czech, Slovene, and Slovak, matching Sova's lusus and frequent bird motifs. The full name Sovara may come from the Greek word σοβαρά (sovará), meaning 'seriously'. "Amalie" resembles Amélie, a French given name meaning 'work,' and may also be a reference to the film and musical Amélie, a story about a young girl who decides to change the lives of those around her for the better while struggling with her own isolation.

Biography

Six Sweeps

Not much is currently known about who Sova was or what Sova looked like at six sweeps. According to her introduction, she spent most of her life after schooling "caged," in a manner she doesn't like to talk about.

Pre-game

Sova worrying about Albion.

Before her introduction, Sova Skorpe messages Albion with concern during her fateful revelation from her Star Guardian.

Later, she responds to Ellsee's memo, offering to help her with deciphering the information from Ellsee's old book and finding its sister document amongst her scrolls. In this memo, she also catches up with Laivan and Serpaz who promise to protect her during the game ahead.

Later, she replies to Albion's messages as she starts to apologize to her for not responding sooner and doesn't want to be the Star Children anymore. As Albion tells her the other reason for not responding earlier, Sova quickly tells her that cannot bring herself to be mad at Albion, as she was the one who taught her so many things to get as who she was currently. She then tells her that she loves her and that's all what it matters as Albion agrees with her.

After her introduction, she received a message from Serpaz as she tells her that the two of them will be spending time together. As they were chatting, Serpaz mentions the word "angel", which quickly changes Sova's mood and had flashbacks to her previous "caretaker", Dexous, who called her with the same nickname. Serpaz tells her to let her past memories go, as she isn't in the arms of her "caretaker" now.

Sova proceeds to read the latest translated scroll: Four trolls gathered on a bonfire as The Jagerman eats his meal, The Vivifier hands The Annalist a drink as she drinks it happily and The Forgiven staring up the sky. The story continues as The Annalist asks The Vivifier for an another tale, which she complies. The Vivifier tells a story about a king who sees an old lady tending to the same persimmon tree.

The king then inquires about the strange activity and the old woman hands him the fruit as he took a bite, delighted by the taste of the fruit. The old lady then tells him that the tree belongs to her lover and would smile every time she ate the fruit. The king was moved by the action and decides to protect it at all costs.

As the story ends, the Vivifier tells The Annalist that "all persimmons on our world today come from those seeds" as The Unknown looks at The Vivifier with love and affection.

The Annalist concludes that she is being loved by those who are close to her and she and her friends continued eating and had sustained a feast of friendship. Before Sova can continue reading, she hears a loud rumble and decides to investigate. Thinking it's her lusus, Cooperi, returning home, she opens the curtain and sees a dark, tall creature staring at her as she screams.

Sova is included in Arcjec's memo but doesn't respond to it.

She is later seen hiding in her Sanitization Block from the creatures as she reads Ellsee's memo. As she reads Ellsee and Jentha's conversation as on how to win the Game, Sova decides to inquire about the creatures that has been lurking outside of her hive and suddenly receives a message from Occeus trying to confide things to her but quickly tells him that she's busy hiding from the creatures. He then tells her in order not to be seen by the creature, she must simply ignore it as they only seek for her attention.

She messages Jentha as Cooperi keeps attacking the creatures, with Jentha telling her that she wasn't the one who planned the entire situation and keeps whacking the creatures with a pillar using the Game's cursor.

Sova is included in another memo, this time it's made by Arcjec, but doesn't respond to it.

During the game

Sova enters in [S] Ellsee: Enter. Her talk with her denizen is not shown.

She is later seen in a dream sequence that quickly turns into a nightmare. She wakes up in her respiteblock, having gone back to her hive after speaking to her denizen. She says goodbye to her lusus before entering her the medium once more, revealing her planet, the Land of Daze and Lattice, where Metatron is there to greet her. They discuss the game and Sova's denizen. After some prompting from Metatron, Sova agrees to show him her writing.

Personality and Traits

Due to her confined upbringing, Sova is socially hindered, with little experience interacting with other trolls. She sees herself as having a great deal to learn and is compassionate and forgiving. She is also "a bit of an emotional pushover who puts other people before herself." She has a habit of misusing common terms of phrase.

She is an avid reader and a history buff, and quite fond of musical theater, despite not being ready to sing again herself.

Sova deals with a difficult past and struggles to move past it. There are signs that she suffers from PSTD due to her past.

Relationships

Albion Shukra

Sova is in a red relationship with Albion Shukra, and both loves her and is very worried about her well-being. Albion regularly translates the ancient scrolls that Sova finds. Albion does not contact Sova on the night she is to merge with her Star Guardian, and Sova spends that evening "practically glued to [her] seat just reading and waiting." It has been confirmed that the two are unbonded, as they are still relatively new to being in a relationship.

Laivan Ferroo and Serpaz Helilo

Sova is good friends with Laivan and Serpaz, but the three had been out of touch for an extended period, at least until recently. Laivan and Serpaz appear to be somewhat protective of Sova and are implied to have played a part in helping Sova obtain her current belongings and residence. There is a picture of the three of them together in Sova's hive.

Between Laivan and Serpaz, Serpaz appears to be slightly closer to Sova, likely due to her outgoing and jovial personality compared to Laivan's more laidback and quiet nature. However, while well-meaning, Serpaz is pretty bad at advising Sova when she is dealing with her emotional hang-ups and trauma, due to her own outlook of dealing with sadness and pain.

Dexous

Sova has a difficult past with Dexous. It is implied that Dexous forced Sova to sing for him and an audience, eventually causing her to develop post-traumatic stress disorder. Reminders of Dexous, such as the word angel, can trigger Sova, leading her to emotionally withdraw and experience flashbacks.

Occeus Coliad

Sova seems to be on good terms with Occeus as he messaged Sova hoping he could vent to her, but when she said she couldn't handle it at the moment he understood and they spoke a little longer seemingly relating to each others negative feelings at the moment.

• Sova's chat handle, sanguineAllegory, means 'red story', with sanguine meaning 'blood red' and allegory meaning 'a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one'. This refers to her being of the red-blooded hues and to how both she and ancestor write stories like the one seen here .
